Always a good idea to let a creative endeavor rest if/when you feel continuing to work with it is more of a hinderance than a help. I'm trying to follow your example of not immediately ripping things from my note- and sketchbooks, just because something's not turning out the way I'd originally intended/envisioned.

Mama Mouse

The painting IS interesting. I am not sure I like the middle painting ... one where she has the red face ... but I do like the composition. However, the last one is much better and when viewed at the larger size you can see how lovely her face is. I'm not an artist and so I really can't judge ... I do wish her face was a bit lighter though. But that's me and doesn't mean a thing ... like I said I'm not an artist! But with any creative endeavour you do sometimes have to put it aside for awhile and go back. Sometimes you will find that you like it the way it is and others you will know what you need to do to improve it or change it to make it more appealing to you.

Now ... I bet that Leonardo or Rembrandt didn't have the neatest and most paint free clothes and homes on the block! In fact, I'm betting that most of the great painters and artists don't care a fig for paint spatters!! They wanted to, and want to, PAINT or CREATE!!! That is their motivation and drive ... and as far as I am concerned ... the paint spatters are as much a part of you as the art! So accept and enjoy! If other's don't like it ... TOO BAD!! You are an ARTISTE!!
